The interval was mapped because of its potential function as a major confining interval. This interval is dominated by thick, relatively impermeable carbonates at the bottom and thick shale sequences at the top. <idPurp>This map's main purpose is to provide regional-scale guidance as to the thickness of the confining interval. The Knox represents the beginning of a large confining interval that continues up to the Lower Silurian Unconformity. The average vertical accuracy of the map is approximately 160 ft (RMSE). Local errors may be better or worse than this value, depending on the quality of data at the map location. This data should not be used as a substitute for detailed site investigations.</idPurp>
