This is an isopach contour map of the lower Rhinestreet Shale Member of the West Falls Formation in eastern Ohio. This data set was originally created as a deliverable for Midwest Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnership (MRCSP) project, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy Cooperative Agreement No. DE-FC26-05NT42589. This data set contains subsurface information compiled from digital public data at Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Geological Survey. A point feature class was created that included the well location and formation thickness at each well. Kriging (ArcGIS Geostatistical Analysis) was used to create a thickness model. The model was then exported to a grid (raster) file. The resulting grid was contoured using ArcGIS Spatial Analyst. The boundary of the map data (grid and contours) is the MRCSP project area of interest for the Ohio portion of the Appalachian Basin.

This work was funded by the U.S. Department of Energy Cooperative Agreement No. DE-FC26-05NT42589 and the Ohio minerals severance tax. MRCSP project coordinated by Battelle Memorial Institute. The following staff members from the ODNR Division of Geological Survey on this map: Christopher Waid, author; technical assistance, Michael Solis; layout and map review, Charles Salmons, Mohammad Fakhari, and Mike Angle; final review performed by Division Chief Thomas Serenko.
