This map provides the Geologic Era and Periods for the state of West Virginia, which is a "generalized geology". The "Generalized Geologic Map of West Virginia" is derived from the WVGES recent digital dataset, "Geologic Map of West Virginia, 1968, Rev 2021, GeMS", which has corrections to a 1998 digitization of WVGES' original paper 1968 map, The "Geologic Map of West Virginia", publication Map-1. The generalized geology is also shown in the Map-1 publication as the "Systemic Map" of the state.
