Description: This is a structure contour map representing the top of several lower Cambrian sandstone units. It was created by computer interpolation (kriging) of borehole data for much of the map extent. In KY, the extensive faulting required that the data be interpolated by hand. Hand interpolation/ extrapolation was also conducted in W and SW PA, based on previous maps by Wagner (1975). The map represents the tops for the Mount Simon Sandstone in MI and IN. In central Ohio, there is an East- West transition from Mount Simon to a stratigraphically higher, more arkosic sand unit within the Conasauga Formation. In KY, these units transition to the basal sand units of the Rome Trough. In NW Pa, the tops represent the Potsdam formation. More detailed mapping of these units is planned for phase II of the project.Author/Originator: The Geological Surveys of Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West VirginiaDate Created: 2005

It was created by computer interpolation (kriging) of borehole data for the main play in central/ eastern Ohio. In KY, the extensive faulting required that the data be interpolated by hand. Description: This is an isopach map representing the top of the Rose Run sandstone. It was created by computer interpolation (kriging) of borehole data for the main play in central/ eastern Ohio. In KY, the extensive faulting required that the data be interpolated by hand. Hand interpolation/ extrapolation was also conducted in western PA, based on information from Riley et al., 1993 and interpretation of more recent well data. The KY isopach map cannot be joined with the rest of the map because of a significant difference in picks. In general, KY picks bracket a layer of sand, whereas picks in OH identify the top of that sand, but the bottom picks include fine grained clastics and dolomites. Description: This is a compilation dataset showing the location of faults and other structures that penetrate and affect the Knox (Prairie du Chien) Group in the MRCI Region.Compilation data files for faults from the Appalachian Basin are from the Cambrian-Ordovician Knox structure (CO-4) mapped in the MRCSP Phase III Interim (MRCSP, 2012). Faults from western and central Kentucky were from J.B. Hickman Univ. Kentucky PhD dissertation (Hickman, 2011). Missouri faults were from MO 2010 Tectonic Fault Structures (MDNR, 2010) and from "Top of Jefferson City Dolomite," Missouri_OFM-81-0024-GI (MoGS, 1981). The remaining fault data was extracted from the dataset "The State Geologic Map Compilation (SGMC) Geodatabase of the Conterminous United States, (ver. 1.1, August 2017) - SGMC_Geology" (Horton and others, 2017). Description: This is an isopach contour map representing the Knox Dolomite to Lower Silurian Unconformity Interval. The interval was mapped because of its potential function as a major confining interval.
