This is an isopach contour map of the Bass Island Dolomite in eastern Ohio. This dataset was originally created for the Midwestern Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnership 2017 final report.

This data set contains subsurface information on the Silurian Bass Islands Dolomite in eastern Ohio compiled from hardcopy and digital public data housed at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Geological Survey and Division of Oil and Gas Resources Management. Only eastern Ohio was studied, although the formation does extend beyond the area of interest. Data points were determined by geologist using well logs throughout eastern Ohio in Petra software, and then exported in ArcGIS for contouring. It potentially includes part of the Keyser Limestone in southeast Ohio, as determined through well log data variations in density and photoelectric effect. Suspect tops were identified using cluster number. The resultant tops were used to generate initial contours using Inverse Distance Weighting in Geostatistical Analysist in ArcGIS. These initial contours were then hand edited to reflect formation thickness distribution patterns. The edited contours were then regridded to produce the final thickness grid.

This work was funded in part of the Department of Energy Midwestern Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnership (Department of Energy Cooperative Agreement No. DE-FC26-05NT42589), and the Ohio severance taxes. The following staff members from the ODNR Division of Geological Survey worked on the dataset: Julie Bloxson and Michael Solis are the primary authors; technical support was provided by Dominique Haneberg-Diggs, Nathan Erber, and J.D. Stucker; additional contributions and oversight were provided by Mohammad Fakhari, Charles Salmons, Michael Angle, and Thomas Serenko.

Author/Originator: Julie Bloxson and Michael Solis

Date Created: 2017

|
