snippet: The main purpose of this isopach contour map is to provide a visual representation of Sylvania Sandstone formation thickness and provide guidance for deep geologic injection. The average thickness accuracy of the map is approximately 50 ft (RMSE). Local errors may be better or worse than this value, depending on the quality of data at the map location. Accurate picks of the base of the Sylvania Sst (top Bois Blanc Fm) used in preparation of this grid map are questionable in some wells and may need further verification. Top SLVN is a relatively confident pick in the study area.

description:

This is an isopach contour map representing the thickness of the Devonian, Sylvania Sandstone in the Michigan basin. It was created by computer interpolation (kriging) of borehole data for the map extent. These borehole data were quality controlled with general guidelines in mind, for example, the Sylvania Sandstone is nowhere thicker than 350ft in the map area, but has highly variable thickness on small spatial scale. These thickness variations result from the stratigraphic position of the unit above the base Kaskaskia unconformity in Michigan.

Author/Originator: Michigan Geological Survey

Date Created: 2005
