description:

This dataset contains the oil and gas well locations and stratigraphic tops information used to create elevation maps for the Base of St. Peter Sandstone (top of Knox Group) in the Illinois Basin area. This data was calculated from separate tops and thickness data for the St. Peter Sandstone as provided in the Illinois Basin Regional Structure Isopach Mapping 2021 MRCI data files (ISGS, 2021). The Base of the St. Peter Sandstone served as a proxy for the top of the Everton Dolomite in the southern Illinois Basin and the top of the Shakopee Dolomite in central and northern Illinois and adjacent western Indiana.

Stratigraphic tops for the Base of St. Peter Sandstone are measured depth feet (STPRB_MD) and subsea feet (STPRB_SS). This subset of well control points contains all identified Base of St. Peter Sandstone tops reported during this compilation and is restricted to the Illinois Basin area. In addition, some selected wells also provide tops for the Everton Dolomite (EVRN_MD, EVRN_SS) and Knox and Prairie du Chien Group units (Shakopee Dolomite, Cotter Dolomite) (KNOX_MD, KNOX_SS). Null data for Everton Dolomite or Knox Group tops are recorded as -99999.

Author/Originator: Tom Sparks, Kentucky Geological Survey

Date Created: 2024
